What is Orthotics?

Have you heard about "orthotics"? Well, if have seen "Forrest Gump", the one who had designed and manufactured the braces on Forrest's legs has a specialty called "orthotics". Morgan Freeman's character in "A Dolphin's Tale", Dr. Cameron McCathy, is a doctor of orthotics. They are the ones who customized some structures, whether it's plastic or metal brace, to support or help in the healing of problematic neuromuscular or skeletal system.

There are many testimonials in the internet proclaiming that orthotics had helped them recover in their accident or injury. For example, a Bradenton attorney, by the name of Dave Dietrich, was prescribed to use a custom shoe to cure his foot problem (plantar fasciitis). According to him, after a wearing them for many months, he noticed that his sore in the back had stopped.

Athletes need the service of orthotic doctors especially when they get injured. One known athletic trainer, Patrick Tanner explained that athletes should have customized shoes so that they can play better. You see, there are different types of feet. Some of them are flat. And when their feet are flat, then there is a possibility that the inner ankle and the knee will collapse-this will eventually lead to knee injury. Thus, it is very important that a player of any kind of sports (especially those that involve running and jumping) should visit their doctors before playing their heart out on the court.
