The Importance of a Healthy Colon

The Importance of a Healthy Colon
The colon or bowel is a muscular tube that is more than 5 feet in length. It includes the large intestine, rectum and anus. This is where nutrients and water are absorbed and the process of eliminating dietary waste occurs. The process of digestion normally takes around 12-24 hours but it takes longer if there is some kind of clogging or build up anywhere in the colon. Colon health is very important because it directly affects all organs of the body. When the colon is not working properly, the liver is affected which then compromises kidney function and so forth. Basically, when the colon doesn't work properly, a chain reaction throughout the body occurs.

Some common colon problems are constipation, ulcerative colitis, hemorrhoids and colon cancer. When the colon becomes clogged, toxins accumulate and symptoms like bad breath, headaches, fatigue, bloating and infections occur.

One way to keep your colon healthy is by consuming high-fiber foods like fruits and vegetable. However, this isn't really an option for most of us since we have busy schedules that prevent us from preparing our meals or making healthy food choices. This is where fiber supplements and other colon health products come in handy. There are many colon health products available today from ready-to-drink beverages to psyllium husk capsules and sachets. A healthy colon is very easy to achieve and preserve. All you have to do is find the right colon health product.
